Is your establishment classified as an ERP, a public-access facility, but you're not sure what that means? In this article, our experts explain everything you need to know about this type of establishment and the obligations that come with it. Finally, we will show you how the Deemply solution helps you manage safety on a daily basis.

What is an ERP?
To understand what an ERP is, it is first important to explain the meaning of the acronym ERP. This term is the contraction of three words: Établissement Recevant du Public (Public-Access Facility). This category includes all buildings that welcome external individuals into their premises or businesses.
Conversely, a company's employees are not considered "external." As soon as a building only hosts workers, it is automatically classified as an ERT (Workplace Facility).
ERPs, as explained on this site, include several types of operations, such as amusement parks, schools, or even retail stores. Access to these various buildings may be paid or free, subject to restrictions, open, or by invitation only.
ERPs and fire safety regulations
As explained in our previous article, fire safety regulations classify establishments into different categories and associate them with different types.
Facility categories
- If more than 1,500 people can be accommodated, the establishment is in the first category.
- The second category covers capacities between 701 and 1,500 visitors.
- A capacity between 301 and 700 people is associated with the third category.
- A capacity of 300 people is dedicated to the fourth category.
- The fifth category, meanwhile, depends on the category and type of activity conducted in the establishment.
Facility types
- Type J: Care facilities for the elderly or people with disabilities.
- Type M : Retail stores and shopping centers.
- Type N : Restaurants and bars.
- Type O : Hotels and boarding houses.
- Type P : Dance halls and multi-purpose venues.
- Type R : Educational and training facilities.
- Type S : Libraries and documentation centers.
- Type U : Healthcare facilities.
- Type X : Indoor sports facilities.
Public-access buildings (ERP) and your regulatory obligations
To understand the regulatory obligations for your public-access building, you must first determine your establishment's category and type.
Once that is done, you can implement the necessary actions to ensure your facility's safety. This begins with the safety register, which involves regularly performing maintenance checks on your equipment to ensure the safety of everyone on the premises.

Simplify your safety register management with Deemply
Managing a paper-based safety register can often be complex and time-consuming. That is where Deemply comes in.
Our solution allows you to automate your checks and enables your service providers to sign off on their work remotely, without you needing to be present. With these tools, the paper register is replaced by a digital one. This saves both you and your service providers valuable time every day.
Signing off on work is not the only feature offered by the Deemply safety register. You can also manage your safety inspections, your requirements, your observations, and even staff training.

The accessibility register: a requirement for public-access buildings
As a public-access building, you are required to maintain an accessibility register. This official document compiles all the information necessary for people with disabilities. It indicates which facilities are accessible and which are not. This information is categorized by disability type and must be available at the building entrance or provided prior to the visit.
With the Deemply accessibility register module, you can create your document using our provided templates or your own. This feature will save you time when preparing your official documents. Once created, you can simply download your accessibility registers, which are available in two versions:
For the public
For the relevant authorities in the event of an inspection
